Al-Qamar 2 of 3
The tribe of Thamud denied the Noble Messengers. 23 For they said: "What! a man! a Solitary one from among ourselves! shall we follow such a one? Truly should we then be straying in mind, and mad! 24 Has the reminder been made to light upon him from among us? Nay! he is an insolent liar! 25 They shall know tomorrow whichsoever is a liar insolent. 26 for We are [going to] send the she-camel as a trial for them, so watch them and be patient. 27 And tell them that the water [of the well] is to be divided between them, and that each one should drink in turn." 28 But they called their companion who took a sword and hamstrung her. 29 How terrible was My punishment and warning. 30 Verily We, We sent upon them one shout, and they became as the stubble of a fold-builder. 31 And in truth We have made the Qur'an easy to remember; but is there any that remembereth? 32 Lot's people also gave the lie to the warnings, 33 We let loose on all of them a squall of claystones, except for the house of Lot whom We saved at dawn 34 as a blessing from Us: this is how We reward the thankful. 35 He had warned them of Our assault but they disputed the warnings. 36 They even asked of him his guests for an ill purpose. Then We blinded their eyes (and said): Taste now My punishment after My warnings! 37 And there came upon them by morning an abiding punishment. 38 So taste My chastisement and My warning. 39 And assuredly We have made the Qur'an easy for admonition; is there then any one who would be admonished. 40
