The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 Arise and warn! 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 and purify your robes, 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 be patient unto your Lord. 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 Far from easy for those without Faith. 10 Leave Me and him whom I created alone, 11 And gave him vast wealth. 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: 14 Then he desires that I should add more. 15 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For lo! he did consider; then he planned - 18 May he be condemned! 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 Then he looked, 21 And frowned and puckered his brow, 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
