A throng of the ancients 39 And a numerous company from among the last. 40 BUT AS FOR those who have persevered in evil - what of those who have persevered in evil? 41 (they shall live) amid burning winds and boiling water, 42 scalding water and under a shadow of black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor pleasant. 44 Verily, before that, they indulged in luxury, 45 And they persisted in the great violation. 46 ever saying, 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up? 47 and perhaps, too, our forebears of old?" 48 Say: The first and the last, 49 Shall most surely be gathered together for the appointed hour of a known day. 50 and then, verily, O you who have gone astray and called the truth a lie, 51 Ye verily will eat of a tree called Zaqqum 52 "Then will ye fill your insides therewith, 53 and shall drink boiling water on top of that. 54 Drinkers even as the drinking of thirsty camels. 55 Such will be their welcome on Judgment Day! 56 We created you; therefore why will you not believe? 57 Have you thought about [the semen] that you discharge -- 58 Do you make a human out of it, or is it We Who create? 59 We have decreed death to you all, and We are not unable, 60 To transfigure you and create you in (forms) that you know not. 61 And [since] you are indeed aware of the [miracle of your] coming into being in the first instance - why, then, do you not bethink yourselves [of Us]? 62 Ponder upon the soil you till, 63 Is it you who cultivate it, or is it We Who develop it? 64 Had We wanted, We could have crushed it to bits and you would have been left to lament, 65 [Saying], "Indeed, we are [now] in debt; 66 nay; we have been undone!” 67 Have you ever considered the water which you drink? 68 Is it ye who shed it from the raincloud, or are We the Shedder? 69 We could make it brackish, if We pleased; so why do you not acknowledge thanks? 70 So what is your opinion regarding the fire which you kindle? 71 Did you make its timber to grow, or did We make it? 72 We have made it a reminder and provision for the travelers, 73 Glorify, then, (O Prophet), the name of your Great Lord. 74
