A multitude of those of old 39 and a multitude of the later people. 40 As for the People on the Left: how miserable will be the People on the Left! 41 (They will be) in the midst of a Fierce Blast of Fire and in Boiling Water, 42 And a shade of black smoke, 43 neither cool, neither goodly; 44 Indeed they were among favours before this. 45 and persisted in the Great Sin, 46 And they used to say: When we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we then, forsooth, be raised again, 47 and perhaps, too, our forebears of old?" 48 Say: "Yea, those of old and those of later times, 49 “They will all be gathered together – on the appointed time of the known day.” 50 Then you went astray, you that belied, 51 "You verily will eat of the trees of Zaqqum. 52 filling your bellies, with it 53 and drink on top of that boiling water 54 You shall drink it as the thirsty camels drink." 55 This is their entertainment on the day of requital. 56 We created you, why will you not believe! 57 Have you considered the seed? 58 did you create it or did We? 59 It was We who decreed death among you. We will not be surpassed 60 That We may transfigure you and make you what ye know not. 61 And [since] you are indeed aware of the [miracle of your] coming into being in the first instance - why, then, do you not bethink yourselves [of Us]? 62 Just ponder over what you sow: 63 Is it you that cause it to grow, or are We the causers of growth? 64 Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry powder, and ye would be left in wonderment, 65 'We are debt-loaded; 66 nay, we have been robbed!' 67 Consider the water that you drink. 68 Is it ye who shed it from the raincloud, or are We the Shedder? 69 If We willed, surely We would make it brackish. Wherefore give ye not thanks? 70 Have you considered the fire which you strike? 71 Was it ye who made the tree thereof to grow, or were We the grower? 72 We Ourselves made it for a reminder, and a boon to the desert-dwellers. 73 Then magnify the Name of thy Lord, the All-mighty. 74
