In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O you (Prophet Muhammad) wrapped, 1 Stand (to prayer) by night, but not all night,- 2 (Worship Him) for more or less than half of the night 3 Or increase a little upon it, and recite the Qur’an slowly in stages. 4 Behold, We shall cast upon thee a weighty word; 5 surely the first part of the night is heavier in tread, more upright in speech, 6 Verily, there is for you by day prolonged occupation with ordinary duties, 7 And remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with [complete] devotion. 8 He is the Lord of the east and the west, there is no deity but Him, so take Him as your Guardian. 9 And patiently endure upon what the disbelievers say, and leave them for good. 10 Leave it to Me to deal with the affluent ones who give the lie (to the Truth), and bear with them for a while. 11 Indeed, with Us [for them] are shackles and burning fire 12 and food that chokes, and grievous suffering 13 On the Day the earth and the mountains will convulse and the mountains will become a heap of sand pouring down. 14 We have sent a messenger who is a witness over you, just as We sent a messenger to Pharoah before you. 15 But Pharaoh rebelled against the messenger, whereupon We seized him with no gentle grip. 16 So how will you save yourselves, if you disbelieve, on a day that will turn children old? 17 Whereby heaven shall be split, and its promise shall be performed. 18 Surely this is a Reminder; so let him who will take unto his Lord a way. 19
