The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ ABOUT WHAT do they [most often] ask one another? 1 About the awesome tiding [of resurrection,] 2 concerning which they have disputes. 3 No indeed; soon will they come to know; 4 Then, no! They are going to know. 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 And the high hills bulwarks? 7 We created you in pairs, 8 And made sleep for you to rest, 9 The night a covering, 10 And made the day as a means of subsistence? 11 And We built above you seven strong ones, 12 And placed (therein) a Light of Splendour? 13 From the rain clouds We send waters pouring down in abundance, 14 so that We may thereby bring forth grain and vegetation, 15 And gardens of thick foliage. 16 Indeed, the Day of Judgement is an appointed time - 17 The Day when the Trumpet will be blown, and you shall come forth in crowds (groups); 18 The heavens will have openings like doors. 19 And the hills are set in motion and become as a mirage. 20 Indeed, Hell has been lying in wait 21 for the insolent a resort, 22 Living therein for ages. 23 they shall taste in it no coolness, nor any pleasant drink 24 Save a boiling fluid and a fluid, dark, murky, intensely cold, 25 Requital corresponding. 26 Behold, they were not expecting to be called to account, 27 and they cried loud lies to Our signs; 28 And everything We have recorded in a book. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
