He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 and in awe [of God] 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 wife and sons, 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 and covered by darkness. 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
