Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the dawn 1 And by ten nights, 2 And by the even and the odd, 3 And the night when it departs. 4 Is there (not) in these an adjuration (or evidence) for those who understand? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with Ad, 6 Of Eram with lofty pillars (erected as signposts in the desert), 7 The like of whom were never created in the realm; 8 And (with) Thamud (people), who cut (hewed) out rocks in the valley (to make dwellings)? 9 and Pharaoh, he of the tent-pegs, 10 [It was they] who transgressed all bounds of equity all over their lands, 11 and worked much corruption therein? 12 and therefore thy Sustainer let loose upon them a scourge of suffering: 13 Lo! thy Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man, when his Lord tries him by giving him honour and gifts, then he says (puffed up): "My Lord has honoured me." 15 But when He tries him, by straitening his means of life, he says: "My Lord has humiliated me!" 16 But no; you do not treat the orphan honourably, 17 or urge one another to feed the destitute? 18 And you devour (others') inheritance greedily, 19 and you have a love of wealth which can never be satisfied. 20 When the earth is crushed into small pieces 21 And thy Lord shall come and the angels, rank on rank. 22 On that day, hell will be brought closer and the human being will come to his senses, but this will be of no avail to him. 23 He shall say, 'O would that I had forwarded for my life!' 24 On that Day no one will punish as He punishes, 25 And no one binds like He does! 26 O the contented soul! 27 return to your Lord wellpleased, wellpleasing. 28 "Enter then among My votaries, 29 enter My Paradise! 30
