He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 and who has fear of God, 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 From what did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and let the earth to break open 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 olives, dates, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 And fruits and herbage 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
