The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ Of what do they ask one another? 1 About the great news, (i.e. Islamic Monotheism, the Quran, which Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) brought and the Day of Resurrection, etc.), 2 About which they have been differing? 3 Nay! they shall soon come to know 4 Nay, again, they will come to know! 5 Did We not make the earth a spreading, 6 And the mountains as projections (thereon)? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 And made your sleep for rest, 9 and We appointed night for a garment, 10 and the day as time for you to make a living? 11 Have We not made seven strong heavens above you, 12 (the sun) as a shining torch 13 and have sent down from the clouds, pouring rain 14 That We may produce from it grain and vegetation, 15 And gardens of thick foliage. 16 Surely the day of decision is (a day) appointed: 17 the Day when the trumpet [of resurrection] is sounded and you all come forward in multitudes; 18 And the heaven is opened and becometh as gates, 19 And the mountains shall be moved off so that they shall remain a mere semblance. 20 Indeed, Hell has been lying in wait 21 a return for the insolent, 22 They will remain in it for ages. 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink. 24 only burning despair and ice-cold darkness: 25 a fitting requital, 26 For verily, they used not to look for a reckoning. 27 And denied Our verses with [emphatic] denial. 28 But all things We have enumerated in writing. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
