The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 and the mountains crumbled 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 And ye are classes three. 7 Those on the right hand; how happy shall those on the right hand be! 8 And the People on the Left: and how miserable will be the People on the Left! 9 And the Outstrippers, the Outstrippers 10 These will be those nearest to Allah. 11 In gardens of bliss [will they dwell] 12 A throng of the ancients, 13 And a few from among the latter. 14 upon close-wrought couches 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 Immortal youths will wait upon them 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 And such fruits as they fancy, 20 Bird meats that they relish, 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 like hidden pearls, 23 Reward for what they used to do. 24 No empty talk will they hear there, nor any call to sin, 25 only the saying 'Peace, Peace!' 26 And those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 Lengthened shadows, 30 And in perpetually flowing water. 31 and fruit abounding, 32 never-failing and never out of reach. 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 Perfectly We formed them, perfect, 35 And made them virgins, 36 Loving companions matched in age, 37 For those on the Right Hand. 38
