The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Recite in the name of your Lord Who created, 1 created man out of a germ-cell 2 Read and your Lord is Most Honorable, 3 who, by the pen, taught the human being: 4 Taught man what he did not know. 5 And yet, but yet man is rebellious, 6 Because he considers himself self-sufficient. 7 for, behold, unto thy Sustainer all must return. 8 What do you think? Have you seen he who forbids 9 a servant of Ours from prayer? 10 Hast thou considered whether he is on the right way, 11 or enjoins true piety? 12 Hast thou considered whether he may [not] be giving the lie to the truth and turning his back [upon it]? 13 Is he then unaware that Allah seeth? 14 Indeed, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock, 15 his lying sinful forelock. 16 So let him call his associates, 17 [the while] We shall summon the forces of heavenly chastisement! 18 No, indeed; do not obey him! Prostrate and come nearer (to Allah). ۩ 19
