The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the night enshrouding 1 and by the day as it appears radiantly, 2 and by Him Who created the male and the female: 3 Certainly, your efforts and deeds are diverse (different in aims and purposes); 4 As for him who gives (in charity) and keeps his duty to Allah and fears Him, 5 And accepts the best, 6 We will make smooth for him the path of ease (goodness). 7 But he who is a greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient, 8 And rejects the best, 9 for him shall We make easy the path towards hardship: 10 His riches will not save him when he perisheth. 11 Truly! Ours it is (to give) guidance, 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 Therefore do I warn you of a Fire blazing fiercely; 14 None shall enter it but the most unhappy, 15 who gives the lie to the truth and turns away [from it]. 16 And away from it shall be kept the one who guards most (against evil), 17 And gives of his wealth that he may grow in virtue, 18 And have in their minds no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 He desires only to please his Lord, the Supreme. 20 He will surely be well-pleased (with him). 21
