The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
99 verses, revealed in Mecca after Joseph (Yousuf) before Animals (Al-An 'aam)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Alif-Lam-Ra; these are verses of the Book and the bright Qur’an. 1 And it will come to pass that those who are [now] bent on denying this truth will wish that they had surrendered themselves to God [in their life time]. 2 Let them eat and enjoy themselves and be diverted by [false] hope, for they are going to know. 3 Not one habitation have We destroyed but at the time determined for it. 4 No nation will precede its term, nor will they remain thereafter. 5 They say: "O thou to whom the Message is being revealed! truly thou art mad (or possessed)! 6 Why do you not bring us the angels, if you should be among the truthful?" 7 We do not send down the angels except with truth; and the disbelievers would not then be reprieved. 8 We have sent down this Exposition, and We will guard it. 9 Indeed, We sent Messengers before thee, among the factions of the ancients, 10 and never yet came an apostle to them without their deriding him. 11 We place in the hearts of sinners (disbelief). 12 They do not believe in him, and the tradition of earlier nations has passed. 13 And even if We opened unto them a gate of heaven and they kept mounting through it, 14 They would certainly say: Only our eyes have been covered over, rather we are an enchanted people. 15

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
