(Firon) said to the chiefs around him: Most surely this is a skillful magician, 34 who desires to expel you from your land by his sorcery; what do you command?' 35 They said: Put him off, (him) and his brother, and send into the cities summoners 36 and summon every skillful magician from all the cities." 37 So the wizards were gathered together at a set time on a day appointed. 38 And the people were also asked to assemble. 39 in order that we shall follow the sorcerers if they are the victors' 40 Then when the magicians came, they said unto Fir'awn: will there surely be a big hire for us if we are the winners? 41 He said: "Yes, and you shall then verily be of those brought near (to myself)." 42 [And] Moses said unto them: "Throw whatever you are going to throw!" 43 So they threw their ropes and their rods, and said: "By the might of Pharaoh, it is we who will certainly win!" 44 Then Moses threw his rod, when, behold, it straightway swallows up all the falsehoods which they fake! 45 The magicians fell down in adoration 46 They said: we believe in the Lord of the worlds. 47 "The Lord of Musa (Moses) and Harun (Aaron)." 48 Said [Pharaoh]: "Have you come to believe in him ere I have given you permission? Verily, he must be your master who has taught you magic! But in time you shall come to know [my revenge]: most certainly shall I cut off your hands and your feet in great numbers, because of [your] perverseness, and shall most certainly crucify you in great numbers, all together!" 49 They said, "There is no harm. To our Lord we shall return. 50 Behold, we [but] ardently desire that our Sustainer forgive us our faults in return for our having been foremost among the believers!" 51
