Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Ha, Meem. 1 By the manifest Book (this Quran) that makes things clear, 2 We have indeed sent it down in a blessed night – indeed it is We Who warn. 3 On that night is made distinct every precise matter - 4 By command, from Our Presence. For We (ever) send (revelations), 5 as a mercy from thy Lord (surely He is the All-hearing, the All-knowing) 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatsoever is in-between the twain, if only ye would be convinced. 7 La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). It is He Who gives life and causes death, your Lord and the Lord of your fore-fathers. 8 yet, they toy with their doubts. 9 So you await the day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke. – 10 Covering the people, this shall be a torment afflictive. 11 (They will say:) "Our Lord! remove the Penalty from us, for we do really believe!" 12 How can there be for them an admonition (at the time when the torment has reached them), when a Messenger explaining things clearly has already come to them. 13 Then they turned away from him and said, "He is a madman, taught by others!" 14 Indeed, We will remove the torment for a little. Indeed, you [disbelievers] will return [to disbelief]. 15 However, We shall truly take Our revenge on the day when the great seizure takes place. 16 ۞ And We had already tried before them the people of Pharaoh, and there came to them a noble messenger, 17 saying, "Hand over God's servants to me. I am a trustworthy messenger for you. 18 And [saying], "Be not haughty with Allah. Indeed, I have come to you with clear authority. 19 I have taken refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you should attack me with stones. 20 And if you do not believe in me, then leave me alone. 21 (But they were aggressive), so he [Musa (Moses)] called upon his Lord (saying): "These are indeed the people who are Mujrimun (disbelievers, polytheists, sinners, criminals, etc.)." 22 (The reply came:) "March forth with My Servants by night: for ye are sure to be pursued. 23 (Cross and) leave the sea undisturbed. The (pursuing) hosts will surely be drowned," 24 How many gardens and fountains did they leave behind, 25 And crops and noble sites 26 And goodly things wherein they rejoiced; 27 Such was their end, and what had been theirs We gave to other people to inherit. 28 Neither heaven nor earth shed tears for them; nor were they respited, 29
