Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat)
60 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Dunes (Al-Ahqaaf) before Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
I swear by the wind that scatters far and wide, 1 then the bearers of weight (the clouds), 2 And (the ships) that float with ease and gentleness; 3 and those that apportion [the gift of life] at [God's] behest! 4 Verily that which ye are promised is true; 5 The Judgement will indeed take place. 6 By the heaven with its numerous forms: 7 Truly ye are in a doctrine discordant, 8 Let whoever wishes, turn away from Our Quran. 9 Perish the conjecturers 10 Those who have forgotten in a state of intoxication. 11 They ask, "When will the Day of Judgement come?" 12 (It will be) a Day when they will be tried (and tested) over the Fire! 13 "Taste you your trial (burning)! This is what you used to ask to be hastened!" 14 Indeed, the righteous will be among gardens and springs, 15 Taking joy in the things which their Lord has given them. Verily, they were before this Muhsinun (good-doers - see V. 2:112). 16 they used to sleep but little by night, 17 and in the mornings they would ask for forgiveness; 18 And in their properties there was the right of the beggar, and the Mahrum (the poor who does not ask the others). 19 And on the earth are signs for the certain [in faith] 20 There is also evidence of the Truth within your own selves. Will you then not see? 21 And in the heaven is your provision and that which ye are promised. 22 for, by the Sustainer of heaven and earth, this [life after death] is the very truth - as true as that you are endowed with speech! 23
