The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]. 3 When the earth shall be shaken with a (severe) shaking, 4 The mountains bruised and crushed, 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 The People on the Right: and how fortunate will be the People on the Right! 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 And the foremost are the foremost, 10 they who were [always] drawn close unto God! 11 in the beautiful Paradise. 12 A [large] company of the former peoples 13 And a few of those of later time. 14 They (will be seated) on gold-encrusted couches, 15 Reclining face to face. 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 with goblets, and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 Wherefrom they will get neither any aching of the head, nor any intoxication. 19 they will also go about them with the fruits of which they may choose, 20 And meat of birds that they may wish. 21 And [for them are] fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes, 22 The likes unto pearls hidden. 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 but only the saying: 'Peace, Peace' 26 The Companions of the Right 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 and extended shade, 30 And in perpetually flowing water. 31 and an abundance of fruits, 32 Whose season is not limited, and their supply will not be cut off, 33 And maidens incomparable. 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 and made them virgins, 36 loving and of equal age. 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
