Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
O YOU ENWRAPPED in the cloak (of Prophethood), 1 keep vigil the night, except a little 2 (Worship Him) for more or less than half of the night 3 and recite the Quran in a distinct tone; 4 Verily We! anon We shall cast upon thee a weighty word. 5 Lo! the vigil of the night is (a time) when impression is more keen and speech more certain. 6 You are indeed much occupied during the day with the affairs of the world. 7 So remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with exclusive devotion. 8 Lord of the East and the West; there is no god but He; so take Him for a Guardian. 9 And bear patiently what they say and avoid them with a becoming avoidance. 10 Leave the prosperous disbelievers to Me and give them respite for a little while; 11 Indeed, with Us [for them] are shackles and burning fire 12 And food that chokes and a painful punishment - 13 On a Day whereon the earth and the mountains shall quake, and the mountains shall become a sand-heap poured forth. 14 Surely We have sent unto you a Messenger as a witness over you, even as We sent to Pharaoh a Messenger, 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed Our Messenger, so We seized him with a terrible seizing. 16 Then how can you fear, if you disbelieve, a Day that will make the children white- haired? 17 [the Day] on which the skies shall be rent asunder, [and] His promise [of resurrection] fulfilled? 18 Verily this is a reminder. So let him who desires take the way to his Lord. 19
