He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 Yet you pay attention 5 you attend to him, 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 and his consort and his children; 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
