He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 And he feareth 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 and let the earth to break open 26 to yield therein corn, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 And olives and palms 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 And fruits and grass, 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 his mother, his father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 and covered by darkness. 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
