He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 And whereas he fears, 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 On honourable pages. 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble, pious. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 and olives and palms, 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Some faces that Day, will be bright (true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
