a good many of olden times, 39 and a throng of the later folk. 40 And those on the Left Hand Who will be those on the Left Hand? 41 They will find themselves in scorching wind and scalding water, 42 and the shadows of black smoke 43 which will neither be cool nor soothing. 44 They were endowed with good things 45 And used to persist in the awful sin. 46 and constantly said: 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we then be restored to life? 47 "And also our forefathers?" 48 Say, [O Muhammad], "Indeed, the former and the later peoples 49 Are to be gathered together for the appointment of a known Day." 50 Then you, you misguided ones, who deny the truth, 51 shall all eat from the Tree of al-Zaqqum, 52 Fill your bellies with it, 53 And drink over it scalding water, 54 And will drink as the drinking of thirsty camels. 55 This will be their welcome on the Day of Judgment. 56 We created you. Will ye then admit the truth? 57 Have you seen sperm? 58 Is it you who create it - or are We the source of its creation? 59 We have decreed death to you all, and We are not unable, 60 that We will change you and cause you to grow again in a way you do not know. 61 You certainly knew about (your) first development. Why do you not take heed? 62 Have you seen what you sow? 63 Is it you that make it grow, or are We the Grower? 64 Did We will, We would make it broken orts, and you would remain bitterly jesting -- 65 (And say:) "We have fallen into debt; 66 nay, we have been robbed!' 67 Did you cast a good look at the water that you drink? 68 Did you send it down from the clouds, or did We send it? 69 [It comes down sweet - but] were it Our will, We could make it burningly salty and bitter: why, then, do you not give thanks [unto Us]? 70 Have you thought about the fire that you kindle. 71 Is it ye who grow the tree which feeds the fire, or do We grow it? 72 We have made it a reminder and an advantage for the wayfarers of the desert. 73 Glorify, then, (O Prophet), the name of your Great Lord. 74
