The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night as it envelops; 1 And the day when it shines in brightness, 2 And by Him Who created male and female; 3 Verily your endeavour is diverse. 4 As for him who gives and is godfearing 5 and believes in the truth of what is right, 6 for him shall We make easy the path towards [ultimate] ease. 7 As for him who was a miser and behaved with aversion (to Allah), 8 And rejects the best, 9 We will facilitate for him the difficult end. 10 His riches will not save him when he perisheth. 11 Surely upon Us rests the guidance, 12 And to Us belong the End and the Beginning. 13 So I have warned you of a Fire which is blazing. 14 None shall enter it save the most wretched, 15 Who denies and turns away. 16 For, distant from it shall remain he who is truly conscious of God: 17 Who gives away his wealth, purifying himself 18 And no one has done a favour to him, for which he should be compensated. 19 But only seeking the Countenance of his Lord the Most High. 20 He verily will be content. 21
