And Jonah too was one of the Messengers. 139 He ran away to the laden ship, 140 and cast lots, and was of the rebutted, 141 Then a (big) fish swallowed him and he had done an act worthy of blame. 142 Had he not been of them who glorify Allah, 143 he would indeed have remained in its belly till the Day when all shall be raised from the dead: 144 ۞ Then We cast him on to the vacant surface of the earth while he was sick. 145 And We grew a tree of gourd (as a shelter) above him. 146 And We had sent him to a hundred thousand: rather they exceeded. 147 And they believed, so We gave them enjoyment [of life] for a time. 148 Now ask them whether your Lord has daughters, whereas they have sons. 149 Or did We create the angels females while they were witnesses? 150 Oh, verily, it is out of their own [inclination to] falsehood that some people assert, 151 'God has begotten a son.' They are certainly liars. 152 Has He chosen daughters in preference to sons? 153 What is the matter with you? How judge ye? 154 What, will you not remember? 155 Or do you have a clear authority? 156 Bring your Book, if you speak truly! 157 They assert kinship between Him and the angels. But the angels know that they (the liars) will be arraigned (in Hell). 158 Hallowed be Allah from that which they ascribe to Him. 159 Except the chosen bondmen of Allah. 160 Therefore you and all what you worship. (The disbelievers and their deities.) 161 Ye cannot excite (anyone) against Him. 162 unless it be such as rushes towards the blazing fire [of his own accord]! 163 There is not one of us but hath his known position. 164 We are surely those who are arranged in ranks. 165 “And indeed we are those who say His purity.” 166 They used to say: 167 Had we but an admonition as had the ancients. 168 We would have been the chosen servants of Allah." 169 Yet they disbelieve therein. Presently they shall come to know. 170 Already Our Word has preceded to Our servants, the Envoys; 171 That they would certainly be assisted, 172 and Our host -- they are the victors. 173 So turn away (O Muhammad SAW) from them for a while, 174 And see [what will befall] them, for they are going to see. 175 Do they wish (indeed) to hurry on our Punishment? 176 But when it descends into the open space before them, evil will be the morning for those who were warned (and heeded not)! 177 So turn away from them for a time 178 And see thou: they themselves shall presently see. 179 Glory to thy Lord, the Lord of Honour and Power! (He is free) from what they ascribe (to Him)! 180 And peace is upon the Noble Messengers. 181 and praise be to God, the Lord of all the Worlds. 182
