He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 and who has fear of God, 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 These verses are a reminder 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 and dense orchards, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
