WHAT, THEN, is amiss with such as are bent on denying the truth, that they run about confusedly to and fro before thee, 36 [coming upon thee] from the right and from the left, in crowds? 37 Does every one of them wish to enter the garden of tranquility? 38 By no means! verily We! We have created them from that which they know. 39 But nay! I swear by the Lord of the Easts and the Wests that We are certainly able 40 To bring better people than they in their place; and they will not be able to thwart Us. 41 So leave them alone to plunge and play, until they encounter the Day which they are promised; 42 The Day whereon they shall come forth from the sepulchres hastily, as though they were to an altar hurrying. 43 Their eyes cast down; disgrace shall overtake them; that is the day which they were threatened with. 44
