The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Recite in the name of your Lord Who created, 1 created man out of a germ-cell 2 Read, for your Lord is most beneficent, 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 taught the human what he did not know. 5 No! [But] indeed, man transgresses 6 for he thinks himself self-sufficient. 7 Verily, to thy Lord is the return (of all). 8 Have you seen the one who forbids 9 A bondman when he offers the prayer? 10 Hast thou seen if he relieth on the guidance (of Allah) 11 or enjoins true piety? 12 Bethinkest thou, if he belieth and turneth away? 13 Does he not know that God observes all things? 14 No indeed; if he does not desist, We shall drag him by the forelock; 15 A lying, sinning forelock. 16 and then let him summon [to his aid] the counsels of his own [spurious] wisdom, 17 We will call on the angels of punishment (to deal with him)! 18 (Muhammad), never yield to him! Prostrate yourself and try to come closer to God. ۩ 19
