The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ What do they question each other about! 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 whereupon they are at variance? 3 Surely yes, they will soon come to know! 4 Again, by no means! anon they shall know. 5 HAVE WE NOT made the earth a resting-place [for you,] 6 and the mountains as pegs (to anchor the earth)? 7 We created you in pairs, 8 and We made your sleep a rest, 9 and made the night [its] cloak 10 And made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 And have made (therein) a shinning lamp (sun). 13 And We send down from the clouds water pouring forth abundantly, 14 so that We might bring forth thereby grain, and herbs, 15 And orchards full of trees and interlacing boughs. 16 Surely the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 On that day the trumpet will be sounded and you will come (to Us) in huge groups. 18 And the heaven shall be opened so that it shall be all openings, 19 And the mountains shall vanish, as if they were a mirage. 20 Indeed, Gehenna (Hell) has become an ambush, 21 The rebels' abode, 22 therein they shall abide for ages, 23 They will not taste therein [any] coolness or drink 24 except boiling water and pus, 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 They indeed hoped not for a reckoning, 27 And denied Our verses with [emphatic] denial. 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 So taste (the fruit of what you sowed), for We shall add nothing but torment, 30
