Nay, by the Moon 32 By the receding night 33 and the morn when it dawns! 34 Surely it (hell) is one of the gravest (misfortunes), 35 A warning to mankind, 36 whether one steps forward to embrace the faith or one turns away from it. 37 Every person is a pledge for what he has earned, 38 Except the companions of the right, 39 who will be in Paradise 40 Of evil-doers: 41 "What has brought you into the Fire of Hell ?" 42 They will answer: "We did not fulfil our devotional obligations, 43 "Nor were we of those who fed the indigent; 44 and we were wont to indulge in sinning together with all [the others] who indulged in it; 45 and we cried lies to the Day of Doom, 46 Till the Inevitable came unto us. 47 Then the intercession of the intercessors shall not profit them. 48 Then what is [the matter] with them that they are, from the reminder, turning away 49 like frightened donkeys 50 fleeing before a lion? 51 Forsooth, each one of them wants to be given scrolls (of revelation) spread out! 52 No indeed; but they do not fear the Hereafter. 53 By no means! Verily this Qur'an is an admonition. 54 So whoever wills may heed advice from it. 55 And what advice will they heed, except if Allah wills? Only He deserves to be feared, and His only is the greatness of forgiving. 56
