He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 you attend to him, 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 And he feareth 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 Not this way this is the advice. 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 Exalted, pure. 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and herbage 28 And olives and palms 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
True are the words of God the Almighty.
