The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the night when it enshrouds, 1 And the day resplendent 2 And Him Who hath created male and female, 3 Your striving is most surely (directed to) various (ends). 4 Then as for him who giveths and feareth Him. 5 And testifieth to the Good, 6 We will make smooth for him the path of ease (goodness). 7 But as for him who hoardeth and deemeth himself independent, 8 and denied the Truth of goodness: 9 for him shall We make easy the path towards hardship: 10 His riches will not save him when he perisheth. 11 Verily We take upon Ourselves to guide, 12 And lo! unto Us belong the latter portion and the former. 13 I have now warned you of the Blazing Fire, 14 None shall reach it but those most unfortunate ones 15 even he who cried lies, and turned away; 16 But the righteous one will avoid it - 17 Who giveth his wealth that he may grow (in goodness). 18 And have in their minds no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 He desires only to please his Lord, the Supreme. 20 He will surely be well-pleased (with him). 21
