When the messengers came to Lot and his family, 61 He said: Lo! ye are folk unknown (to me). 62 They said, "No, but we bring you news about what they disputed, 63 “And we have brought to you a true command, and indeed we are truthful.” 64 Go, then, with thy household while it is yet night, with thyself following them in the rear; and let none of you look back, but proceed whither you are bidden." 65 And We decreed for him that commandment, that the last remnant of those should be cut off in the morning. 66 And the people of the city came rejoicing. (* To the house of Prophet Lut.) 67 He said: Surely these are my guests, therefore do not disgrace me, 68 And keep your duty to Allah, and shame me not! 69 They said, 'Have we not forbidden thee all beings?' 70 Lot said, "These are my daughters if you want them." 71 By your life, [O Muhammad], indeed they were, in their intoxication, wandering blindly. 72 So As-Saihah (torment - awful cry, etc.) overtook them at the time of sunrise; 73 And We made the upside there of downwards, and We rained on them stones of baked clay. 74 Lo! therein verily are portents for those who read the signs. 75 And verily! They (the cities) were right on the highroad (from Makkah to Syria i.e. the place where the Dead Sea is now). 76 Lo! therein is indeed a portent for believers. 77 The dwellers of the Wood (near Midian) were also wicked. 78 We afflicted them with punishment. Both people had clear (divine) authority among them. 79
