To the Thamud We sent their brother Salih. He said, "O my people, worship God; you have no other god but Him. A veritable proof has come to you from your Lord: this is God's she-camel, a sign for you, so let her feed in God's land and do not harm her in any way, or you will be overwhelmed by a painful punishment. 73 "And remember how He made you inheritors after the 'Ad people and gave you habitations in the land: ye build for yourselves palaces and castles in (open) plains, and carve out homes in the mountains; so bring to remembrance the benefits (ye have received) from Allah, and refrain from evil and mischief on the earth." 74 The leaders of the arrogant party among his people said to those who were reckoned powerless - those among them who believed: "know ye indeed that Salih is a messenger from his Lord?" They said: "We do indeed believe in the revelation which hath been sent through him." 75 Those who were scornful said: Lo! in that which ye believe we are disbelievers. 76 Then they hamstrung the she-camel and rebelled against the command of their Lord, and said: "Bring, O Saleh, on us the affliction you promise, if you are one of the sent ones." 77 So the earthquake seized them, and morning found them prostrate in their dwelling-place. 78 And he turned away from them and said, "O my people, I had certainly conveyed to you the message of my Lord and advised you, but you do not like advisors." 79 And Lot! (Remember) when he said unto his folk: Will ye commit abomination such as no creature ever did before you? 80 "Verily, you practise your lusts on men instead of women. Nay, but you are a people transgressing beyond bounds (by committing great sins)." 81 But the answer of his people was only that they said, "Evict them from your city! Indeed, they are men who keep themselves pure." 82 But we saved him and his family, except his wife: she was of those who legged behind. 83 And We rained a shower (of stones) upon them; therefore see what sort of fate befell the culprits! 84
