The chiefs of Pharaoh's people said, "This is most surely a skillful magician, 109 "He wants to get you out of your land, so what do you advise?" 110 They said, "Let him and his brother wait awhile, and send into the cities summoners, 111 who should bring to you every skillful magician." 112 And the magicians came unto Fir'awn. They said: surely there is for us a reward if we are the overcomers. 113 He said: Yes, and you shall certainly be of those who are near (to me). 114 They said: O Moses! Either throw (first) or let us be the first throwers? 115 He said, 'You cast.' And when they cast they put a Spell upon the people's eyes, and called forth fear of them, and produced a mighty sorcery. 116 Then We inspired Moses, saying, "Throw down your staff." And it immediately swallowed up their false devices. 117 ۞ Thus the truth prevailed and what they had produced came to nothing: 118 And thus were they vanquished there and then, and became utterly humiliated. 119 and the sorcerers prostrated themselves, 120 They said: we believe in the Lord of the worlds. 121 "The Lord of Moses and Aaron." 122 The Pharaoh said to the magicians, "You declared your belief in him (Moses) without my permission. This is a plot to throw my people out of their city. But you will soon know. 123 I will cut off your hands and feet on the alternate sides and crucify you all." 124 They said: "For us, We are but sent back unto our Lord: 125 Will you punish us just because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us? Our Lord! Shower us with perseverance and cause us to die as those who have submitted [to You].' 126
