Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
HaMeem 1 By the Scripture that maketh plain 2 that We sent down during a Blessed Night. We are ever warning. 3 On which all affairs are sorted out and decided 4 [Every] matter [proceeding] from Us. Indeed, We were to send [a messenger] 5 (As) a Mercy from your Lord. Verily! He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower. 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all between them, if ye (but) have an assured faith. 7 There is only One Lord. It is He who gives life and causes things to die. He is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers. 8 Rather they are in doubt, playing. 9 So be on the watch for a day when heaven shall bring a manifest smoke 10 Covering the people; this is a painful torment. 11 Then they will say, "Lord, relieve us from this torment, for truly we are now believers in You." 12 How can there be an admonition unto them, when surely there came unto them an apostle manifest! 13 Yet they turned away from him and said: one tutored, one distraced. 14 Yet We will hold the scourge back for a while, (but no sooner than We will do so) you will revert to your old ways. 15 On the day when We will seize (them) with the most violent seizing; surely We will inflict retribution. 16 ۞ We did, before them, try the people of Pharaoh: there came to them a messenger most honourable, 17 Saying: "Restore to me the slaves of Allah (i.e. the Children of Israel). Verily! I am to you a Messenger worthy of all trust, 18 "And exalt not yourselves against God: for, verily, I come unto you with a manifest authority [from Him]; 19 I take refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you stone me. 20 And if ye put no faith in me, then let me go. 21 And [finally] he called to his Lord that these were a criminal people. 22 'Then set thou forth with My servants in a watch of the night; surely you will be followed. 23 "And leave the sea as it is (quiet and divided). Verily, They are a host to be drowned." 24 How many gardens did they leave behind, and how many fountains 25 And cornfields and noble places! 26 And pleasant things wherein they took delight! 27 Thus. And We caused to inherit it another people. 28 And the heavens and the earth wept not for them, nor were they given a respite. 29
