The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the star when it sets: 1 This fellow-man of yours has not gone astray, nor is he deluded, 2 nor does he speak out of his own desire. 3 It [the Quran] is nothing but revelation sent down to him. 4 and taught to him 5 One strong of make. Then he stood straight. 6 standing poised at the highest point on the horizon, 7 Then he drew nigh and came down 8 Till he was two bows length off or yet nearer. 9 He revealed to God's servant whatever he wanted. 10 His heart did not lie of what he saw. 11 will you, then, contend with him as to what he saw? 12 Indeed, he saw him in another descent 13 By the lote-tree of the utmost boundary, 14 Near it is the Paradise of Abode. 15 When there covered the Lote Tree that which covered [it]. 16 The sight [of the Prophet] did not swerve, nor did it transgress [its limit]. 17 He saw some of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have ye seen Lat. and 'Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third - the other one? 20 Are there sons for you, and daughters for Him? 21 This is certainly an unjust apportioning. 22 They are not but [mere] names you have named them - you and your forefathers - for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow not except assumption and what [their] souls desire, and there has already come to them from their Lord guidance. 23 Shall man have whatsoever he wisheth for! 24 All that is in the life to come and all that is in this life belongs only to God. 25
