The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Mount 1 And by oath of a passage, written – 2 In parchment unrolled. 3 by the much-visited House, 4 and the uplifted roof 5 and the sea swarming, 6 surely thy Lord's chastisement is about to fall; 7 There is none who could avert it. 8 The day the sky will tremble, 9 And the mountains will move away with an awful movement. 10 Then woe that Day to those that treat (Truth) as Falsehood;- 11 Those who are playing in pursuits. 12 A day when they will be pushed, forcibly shoved towards the fire of hell. 13 'This is the fire that you cried lies to! 14 Is this, then, any feat of magic or are you unable to see? 15 "Burn ye therein: the same is it to you whether ye bear it with patience, or not: Ye but receive the recompense of your (own) deeds." 16 Verily the God-fearing will be in Gardens and Delight. 17 Rejoicing because of what their Lord gave them, and their Lord saved them from the punishment of the burning fire. 18 They will be told, "Eat and drink to your heart's delight for what you have done". 19 They will recline (with ease) on Thrones (of dignity) arranged in ranks; and We shall join them to Companions, with beautiful big and lustrous eyes. 20 And (as for) those who believe and their offspring follow them in faith, We will unite with them their offspring and We will not diminish to them aught of their work; every man is responsible for what he shall have wrought. 21 And We aided them with fruit and meat, whatever they desire. 22 There they shall pass from hand to hand a (wine) cup, free from any Laghw (dirty, false, evil vague talk between them), and free from sin (because it will be legal for them to drink). 23 ۞ Youths as fair as hidden pearls will be set apart to wait upon them; they will be running to and fro to serve them. 24 And some of them shall advance towards others questioning each other. 25 'When we were among our people' they will say, 'we were ever fearful, 26 and so God has graced us with His favour, and has warded off from us all suffering through the scorching winds [of frustration]. 27 Formerly we had always prayed to Him. Surely He is Most Benign, Most Compassionate.” 28
