The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 Which is bound to happen undoubtedly -- 2 It will abase some and exalt others. 3 When the earth will tremble, shivering. 4 And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms, 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 So those on the Right Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Records in their right hands), Who will be those on the Right Hand? (As a respect for them, because they will enter Paradise). 8 And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell). 9 Then the foremost, how pre-excellent, 10 They shall be the nearest to God. 11 In gardens of tranquility; 12 (a throng of the ancients 13 And a few from the latter. 14 (They will be) on Thrones encrusted (with gold and precious stones), 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 Round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness), 17 with goblets, and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 No headache will they have therefrom, nor will they be intoxicated - 19 And fruit of what they select 20 and such flesh of fowl as they desire, 21 And [for them are] fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes, 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 The reward for what they did. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace)! 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 (They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns, 28 and acacias flower-clad, 29 And spreading shade, 30 and flowing water 31 and fruits abounding 32 That will neither finish, nor ever be stopped. 33 And couches raised up. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 Then We have made them virgins, 36 chaste, loving companions of the same age 37 For those of the right hand. 38
