1/2 Hizb 33

۞ We had earlier given Abraham true direction, for We knew him well. 51 when he said unto his father and his people, "What are these images to which you are so intensely devoted?" 52 They answered: "We found our forefathers worshipping them." 53 He said, 'Then assuredly you and your fathers have been in manifest error.' 54 They said, "Have you brought us the Truth, or are you one of those who jest?" 55 He said: "In fact it was your Lord, the Lord of the heavens and the earth, who created them; and I bear witness to this. 56 And, by Allah, I shall circumvent your idols after ye have gone away and turned your backs. 57 So he broke them to pieces, (all) but the biggest of them, that they might turn (and address themselves) to it. 58 They said, "Who has done this to our gods? He must indeed be some man of impiety!" 59 Some among them said, “We heard a youth speak ill of them the one called Ibrahim.” 60 They said, "Then bring him before the eyes of the people, that they may bear witness." 61 They said: "Are you the one who has done this to our gods, O Ibrahim (Abraham)?" 62 He said, 'No; it was this great one of them that did it. Question them; if they are able to speak!' 63 So they turned towards their own selves and (inwardly) said, “Indeed you yourselves are unjust.” 64 But then they relapsed into their former way of thinking and said: "Thou knowest very well that these [idols] cannot speak!" 65 Abraham said: "Do you, then, worship beside Allah a thing that can neither benefit you nor hurt you? 66 Shame on you and on whatever you worship instead of God. Can you not understand?" 67 They exclaimed: "Burn him, and [thereby] succour your gods, if you are going to do [anything]!" 68 [But] We said: O fire! Be thou cool, and [a source of] inner peace for Abraham!" 69 They had devised an evil plan (against Abraham), but We turned it into failure." 70 for We saved him and Lot, [his brother's son, by guiding them] to the land which We have blessed for all times to come. 71 And We bestowed on him Isaac and, as an additional gift, (a grandson), Jacob, and We made righteous men of every one (of them). 72 and made them leaders who would guide [others] in accordance with Our behest: for We inspired them [with a will] to do good works, and to be constant in prayer, and to dispense charity: and Us [alone] did they worship. 73 To Lot We gave wisdom and knowledge, and saved him from a people who acted villainously and were certainly wicked and disobedient. 74 And We admitted him into Our mercy; indeed he is among those who deserve Our proximity. 75
