The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 There is no denying that it will befall - 2 (it will) abase (some) and exalt (others). 3 When the earth is shaken with a shaking [severe,] 4 and the mountains are shattered into [countless] shards, 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 And you shall be three sorts. 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 Then the foremost, how pre-excellent, 10 they who were [always] drawn close unto God! 11 In the gardens of bliss. 12 A number of people from those of old, 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 On lined couches, 15 Reclining thereon, face to face. 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 No after-ache will they receive therefrom, nor will they suffer intoxication: 19 they will also go about them with the fruits of which they may choose, 20 Bird meats that they relish, 21 And (there will be) Companions with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes,- 22 Like pearls within their shells, 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk nor any sinful speech. 25 but only the saying: 'Peace, Peace' 26 The Companions of the Right Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 27 Midst lote-trees thornless. 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 and extended shade, 30 and outpoured waters, 31 And fruits numberless, 32 never-ending and unrestricted, 33 And raised couches; 34 Lo! We have created them a (new) creation 35 And have made them virgins. 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 All this will be for the People on the Right; 38
