The Human (Al-Insan)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Has there not been over Man a long period of Time, when he was nothing - (not even) mentioned? 1 We created the human being from the union of sperm and egg to test him. We gave him hearing and vision. 2 We showed him the Way: whether he be grateful or ungrateful (rests on his will). 3 [Now,] behold, for those who deny the truth, We have prepared chains, iron collars and a blazing fire, but 4 But the righteous shall drink of a goblet mixed with camphor; 5 A spring wherefrom the slaves of Allah drink, making it gush forth abundantly, 6 The servants of God fulfill their vows and are afraid of the day in which there will be widespread terror. 7 And they give food in spite of love for it to the needy, the orphan, and the captive, 8 They say to them, “We give you food, only for the sake of Allah – we do not seek any reward or thanks from you.” 9 Indeed, We fear from our Lord a Day austere and distressful." 10 So God will protect them from the evil of that day, and grant them happiness and joy, 11 And because they were patient and constant, He will reward them with a Garden and (garments of) silk. 12 Reclining upon couches, they will find therein neither the heat of the sun nor bitter, biting cold, 13 Near them shall be its shades with its clusters hung gently down, 14 And amongst them will be passed round vessels of silver and cups of crystal, 15 Also there will be crystal clear goblets of silver containing the exact measure of drink which they desire. 16 and they will be given a cup to drink flavoured with ginger, 17 (The water of) a spring therein, named Salsabil. 18 ۞ And round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness): If thou seest them, thou wouldst think them scattered Pearls. 19 When you see them, you see bliss, and a great Kingdom. 20 Upon the inhabitants will be green garments of fine silk and brocade. And they will be adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord will give them a purifying drink. 21 'See, this is your recompense, your striving is thanked' 22
