The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 abasing [some,] exalting [others]! 3 when the earth shall be rocked 4 And the mountains will be crushed, blown to bits. 5 Becoming dust scattered abroad, 6 You will become three categories: 7 Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 8 And those on the left hand; how miserable shall those on the left hand be! 9 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 A number of the earlier peoples, 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 They will recline on jewelled couches 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 There will circulate among them young boys made eternal 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 which will not cause them any intoxication or illness. 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 and any flesh of fowl that they desire. 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 Like unto Pearls well-guarded. 23 A recompense for that which they have been working. 24 They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin - 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 As for the people of the right hand, how happy they will be! 27 (They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns, 28 And clusters of banana plants. 29 And a shade ever-spread. 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit, abundant [and varied], 32 Unending, unforbidden, 33 and raised couches 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 And made them virginal, 36 full of love, well-matched 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
