The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ OF WHAT ARE they asking one another? 1 About the great news, (i.e. Islamic Monotheism, the Quran, which Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) brought and the Day of Resurrection, etc.), 2 that they are in utter disagreement? 3 (What they think is certainly despicable!). They will soon come to know (the reality). 4 Verily, verily they shall soon (come to) know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 And We have made your sleep as a rest. 9 and We appointed night for a garment, 10 And the day for seeking livelihood. 11 and built above you seven strong firmaments, 12 (the sun) as a shining torch 13 And We have sent down from the rain-clouds water plenteous. 14 Thereby to produce grain and plant, 15 and gardens luxuriant. 16 Surely the day of decision is (a day) appointed: 17 The Day when the Trumpet will be blown, and you shall come forth in crowds (groups); 18 And the heaven will be opened – it therefore becomes like gates. 19 and the mountains will be set in motion and become a mirage. 20 Hell will lie in wait (for its prey). 21 A place of resort for the inordinate, 22 They will tarry therein for ages. 23 They will not feel cold nor taste any drink 24 except boiling water and pus, 25 a befitting recompense for their deeds. 26 They indeed hoped not for a reckoning, 27 And they denied Our signs to the extreme. 28 And We have kept recorded everything in a Book, accounted for. 29 'Taste! We shall not increase you except in punishment' 30
