The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
When the sun (with its spacious light) is folded up; 1 The stars turn dim and scatter, 2 And when the mountains are removed 3 And when full-term she-camels are neglected 4 and when all beasts are gathered together, 5 and when the seas boil over, 6 And when the souls are paired. 7 And when the girl buried alive shall be asked: 8 such as, "For what crime were they murdered?" 9 and when the scrolls [of men's deeds] are unfolded, 10 and when heaven is laid bare, 11 hell is made to blaze, 12 and when paradise is brought into view: 13 then shall each person know what he has brought along. 14 I swear by the receding stars. 15 Moving swiftly and hiding themselves, 16 And by oath of the night when it turns back. 17 And by oath of the morning when it takes birth. 18 Verily, this is the Word (this Quran brought by) a most honourable messenger [Jibrael (Gabriel), from Allah to the Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him)]. 19 Mighty, established in the presence of the Lord of the Throne, 20 Obeyed (by the angels), trustworthy there (in the heavens). 21 Your companion is not mad. 22 he indeed saw the message-bearer on the clear horizon; 23 and he is not one to begrudge others the knowledge [of whatever has been revealed to him] out of that which is beyond the reach of human Perception. 24 And the Qur'an is not the word of a devil, expelled [from the heavens]. 25 Whither then go ye? 26 This is a reminder for all the peoples of the world, 27 To whomsoever among you who wills to walk straight, 28 And ye will not, unless (it be) that Allah willeth, the Lord of Creation. 29
