The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the sun and its noon-time brightness, 1 and by the moon as it follows it; 2 By the day when it glorifieth it. 3 and by the night when it draws a veil over it, 4 And the heaven and Him Who made it, 5 and by the earth and how He spread it, 6 by the soul and how He formed it, 7 and inspired it with knowledge of evil and piety, 8 prosperous is he who purified it, 9 And he is indeed a failure who stunteth it. 10 Thamood cried lies in their insolence 11 when the most wicked of them broke forth, 12 And the messenger of Allah said: It is the she-camel of Allah, so let her drink! 13 Then they belied him and they hamstrung her; wherefore their Lord overwhelmed them for their crime, and made it equal. 14 And for Him is no fear of its consequences. 15
