a good many of olden times, 39 And a multitude of those of later time. 40 But those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) those of the left hand -- 41 Will be in the scorching wind and boiling water, 42 And in the shades of Black Smoke: 43 neither cold nor graceful in shape. 44 For, behold, in times gone by they were wont to abandon themselves wholly to the pursuit of pleasures, 45 and had persisted in the Great Sin. 46 And they used to say, "When we die and become dust and bones, are we indeed to be resurrected? 47 and perhaps, too, our forebears of old?" 48 Say (unto them, O Muhammad): Lo! those of old and those of later time 49 shall all be brought together on an appointed Day. 50 Then lo! ye, the erring, the deniers, 51 You will indeed eat from the Zaqqum tree. 52 and you shall fill therewith your bellies 53 and drink boiling water on top of that, 54 like a thirsty camel". 55 This shall be their entertainment on the Day of Judgement. 56 WE who have created you, [O men:] why, then, do you not accept the truth? 57 Have you seen sperm? 58 Do you create it, or We are its creator? 59 It was We who decreed death among you. We will not be surpassed 60 In the matter of exchanging you for others, and to transform you into what you do not know. 61 You have certainly known the first creation. Why, then, do you not take heed? 62 Have you ever considered the seed which you cast upon the soil? 63 Do you give it its increase, or are We the giver? 64 If We willed, We could make it [dry] debris, and you would remain in wonder, 65 [Saying], "Indeed, we are [now] in debt; 66 Aye! we are deprived! 67 And have you seen the water that you drink? 68 Did you send it down from the clouds, or did We send it? 69 If We had so pleased, We could have made it bitter. So why would you not give thanks? 70 Behold! the fire which ye strike out: 71 Is it you that produce the trees for it, or are We the producers? 72 We! it is We Who made it a reminder and a provision unto the campers. 73 Then, exalt the Name of your Lord, the Great. 74
