The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 arise and give warning! 2 and magnify the glory of your Lord, 3 and purify your clothing, 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 and do not think that by doing such deeds, you have done a great favor to God. 6 and persevere for your Lord's sake. 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 So that is a tough day. 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 and to whom I have granted resources vast, 12 and sons that stand in witness. 13 And made several preparations for him. 14 Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- 15 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. 16 Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. 17 Verily, he thought and plotted; 18 death seized him, how was his determining! 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 Then he looked, 21 then he frowned, and scowled, 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 It does not allow anyone to live, and neither does it leave anyone to die; 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 over it are nineteen. 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
