He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And he fears, 9 You neglect. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 In honored books, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Noble and pious. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 We send down abundant water, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
