He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 And hath fear, 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 lofty and pure, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 noble and purified. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 And olives and palms 29 And dense gardens, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 Mother and father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
